On Halloween night 2000 I got an email from Alan Sparhawk. I was living in NYC working in the A/V department at Baruch College and I was a huge Low fan. Alan had contacted me to let me know he had heard that I was interested in making a documentary on his band. While Mim and Zak weren't into it Alan was giving it a maybe. I was a super fan so it was a big memorable night for me.
I ended up making that documentary ("Closer Than That") but i broke a golden rule, I had become friends with the band. The movie suffered as a result but my life improved because Alan and Mim became part of it. I even moved to their hometown. I carved my own way in Duluth over the years and my friendship with Al and Mim was always there. I enjoyed joking and gossiping with Mim very much.
I wrote this music last Fall 2022 as we were losing Mim. Owen and I would get together at his house and run these songs. I orchestrated parts for Ryan Young and we recorded with him at his studio last Winter.
It's still so confusing and sad without her around. I'm thankful for music to help express certain feelings that are beyond words.
